• Intensive course (30+ lessons a week) — for those who need to raise their level as quickly as possible. It usually pairs morning classes with afternoon practical workshops. A heavy workload, but fast results.

• Courses for couples and the over-50s — programmes with a gentler schedule, excursions and a cultural programme. Ideal for combining study with a holiday.

The more intensive the programme and the more prestigious the school, the higher the price. Discounts are often available for bookings of 4 weeks or more.

Accommodation options for adults on courses

• Host family — a private room with breakfast or half board. Excellent evening language practice. Popular with adults, especially the over-30s.

• Residence or hall of residence — a room on the school campus, sometimes with its own kitchen and shower. Ideal for those who value their independence.

• Rented flats or guest houses — for those who prefer complete privacy and are happy to handle day-to-day matters themselves.
